Please join us in thanking Mrs.Laura Uribe-Center for her incredible legacy of service at Lytle ISD. Her retirement, effective June 30, 2025, is bittersweet. While we are happy for her next chapter in life, her absence will be deeply felt across our district. Over the years, Mrs. Uribe-Center wore many hats in Lytle ISD — teacher, counselor and for most of her years here, our steady and trusted Human Resources and Federal Programs Director. Her dedication to our Pirates never wavered.
Her tireless advocacy for our counseling staff and for the mental health and wellness of our students has shaped a culture of care that will continue. She passionately led the way in becoming a Capturing Kids’ Hearts National Showcase District — not because it was easy, but because she believes our students deserved schools where relationships come first.
As a key voice at the table on student safety, Mrs. Uribe-Center helped lead difficult conversations and important decisions to ensure our campuses are safe and responsive. She also shouldered the weight of managing our federal grants and programs — especially during the most uncertain moments of the COVID-19 pandemic — ensuring our schools remained operational, supported and moving forward.
As HR Director, Mrs. Uribe-Center led a complex and often invisible web of responsibilities: recruiting and retaining top talent, managing leaves and benefits, handling grievances with integrity and compassion, guiding our principals through hiring processes and always working to make sure we put the right people in front of our students. She handles all with a fantastic wit and sense of humor that brought smiles through even the most challenging times.
Mrs. Uribe-Center has shaped the heart of this district. We are better because of her leadership, and all will miss her more than words can fully express. Lytle ISD Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Dustin Breithaupt says, "As a first-year superintendent, Laura has helped me grow and learn so much. She has become a trusted confidant and friend who I will truly miss."
Thank you, Mrs. Laura Uribe-Center for your 35 years of service to our public schools. Your legacy will remain in the people you’ve hired, the programs you’ve built, and the relationships you’ve nurtured.
