Islander Splash Cross Country Meet in Corpus Christi

Thank you Coach Gilbert Ruiz for always giving us the full picture of where these teams stand and your strategies throughout the season.

Your Lytle Pirate XC team finished the Regular Season Saturday in Corpus after a long week of Homecoming activities.  They left early in the morning at 4:45 am to make the 9:15 am start time.

All the boys ran the med/small varsity division and finished first out of 23 schools placing all 5 scorers in the top 10.  Johnny Rey Alvarez was the best finisher coming in 5th.

All the girls ran the med/small varsity division and finished 3rd out of 35 schools behind La Feria (#10 in 4A) and Tilden McMullen (#1 in 1A) with Frances Scotello also leading the group with a 5th place finish.

Both of these groups struggled again, but I know they had a long night and drive over.

Both of these groups finish the season as the most tested groups I have ever coached.  The boys ran up 5 of the 8 meets we went to, and the most before that was last year when they did it twice.  Even though they ran up, they only lost to 2 schools, 5A Boerne & 6A Schertz Clemens, competing against 141 schools with over 50 of those being 5A/6A. The girls were just as tested as they ran up 4 times not only against 5A/6A schools but running 5Ks when they traditionally run 2 miles. This is also the youngest girls group I have ever had as we do not have a senior on the team and yet they only lost to 10 schools (5-6As, 2-5As, 1-4A, 1-2A, 1-1A) competing against 126 with 30 being 5A/6A. Of the 3 small schools they lost to, two of them were this past Saturday and are ranked and the other was to Hamilton last week at McNeil who is #1 in 2A.

I am hoping that this schedule will help us down the road, though the last two weeks have been a little shaky. We now get ready for the Championship Season beginning with the 28-3A District XC Championships on Monday, Oct. 7, 2024, in Dilley.
