Junior High softball team

Junior High Softball took part in the District Tournament on April 11, ending their season in second place. The following is a recap of their tournament match-ups.

Lytle vs Cotulla 8-7
The Junior High Lady Pirates took Saturday's game in dramatic fashion, with an 8-7 walk-off victory over Cotulla. The game was tied at 7 in the bottom of the fifth when Angelina Jimenez drew a walk, scoring 1 run.

The Pirates rallied for the victory despite trailing 4-0 in the third.

Lytle captured the lead, 7-4, in the bottom of the fourth after Jimenez doubled to center field, Amaya Rodriguez grounded out, Cotulla committed an error, and Priscilla Martinez doubled down the left field line, each scoring one run.

Cotulla tied the game in the top of the fifth.

Emma Soto earned the win for the Lady Pirates. The pitcher allowed 6 hits and 7 runs (5 earned) over four and two-thirds innings, striking out 6 and walking 2.

Lytle piled up 8 hits in the game. Arabella Castro led the with 2 hits in 3 at bats. Rodriguez, Jimenez, Martinez, and Castro each drove in 1 run for Lytle.

Lytle vs Crystal City 7-5
Priscilla Martinez collected 3 hits in 3 at bats, as the Lytle defeated Crystal City 7-5 on Saturday. Martinez hit an inside the park home run in the third inning, singled in the fourth inning, and singled in the first inning.

The Lady Pirates opened the scoring in the first after Arabella Castro tripled, scoring 2 runs.

The Pirates added 1 run in the second. Crystal City JH committed an error, making the score 3-0.

Crystal City captured the lead, 4-3, in the bottom of the second.

Martinez hit an inside the park home run, which helped Lytle tie the game at 4 in the top of the third.

A steal of home by gave Crystal City the lead, 5-4, in the bottom of the third.

The Lady Pirates jumped back into the lead in the top of the fourth inning after Hannah DeVaney singled to center field, Martinez singled down the right field line each scoring 1 run.

Amaya Rodriguez stepped in the circle first for the Pirates. The right-handed pitcher surrendered 2 hits and 4 runs (0 earned) over two innings, striking out 1 and walking 3.

Lytle amassed 11 hits in the game. Soto and Davenport each collected multiple hits and Sydney Sollock stole 2 bases.

Lytle vs Jourdanton for Championship 2-7, 2nd place finish
The Lady Pirates fell to Jourdanton 7-2 on Saturday.

Jourdanton jumped out to the lead in the bottom of the first inning after scoring 3 runs. They extended their lead in the third.

Amaya Rodriguez took the loss for the Lady Pirates. The right-handed pitcher went three and one-third innings, giving up 7 runs (6 earned) on 8 hits, striking out 4 and walking 1.

Priscilla Martinez and Hannah DeVaney were a force together in the lineup, as they each collected one hit for the Eighth Grade Lady Pirates.
