Black Team
The Lytle Pirates JH Black put together a complete performance April 8, shutting out Poteet Middle School 9–0.
Lytle jumped ahead early in the first inning, capitalizing on an error, a Caleb Roberts single, and patient at-bats to take control. From there, the pitching took over. Zane set the tone with 2 scoreless innings and 3 strikeouts, while Roberts and Dylan Arriola closed the door in relief.
At the plate, Roberts and Zane each drove in 2 runs, with Roberts going a perfect 2-for-2. The Pirates showed great discipline, drawing 7 walks, and were aggressive on the bases with 9 stolen bases—led by Zane, Jagger, and Roberts.
Defensively, Lytle was flawless, not committing a single error, with Mariano leading the way in the field.
It was a strong all-around effort and a decisive win for the Pirates.
Gold Team
The Lytle Pirates JH Gold showed grit and composure, holding off Poteet Aggies for a hard-fought 6–5 win.
Noah M set the tone early, pitching two strong innings while the defense delivered key outs behind him. In relief, Waylen came up clutch with timely strikeouts to keep the Pirates in control.
Defensively, it was a total team effort, with Joseph, Lucian, Liam, Hemi, Sergio, and Noah all making big plays. At the plate, Noah led the way going 2-for-2 with key RBIs, while Alex, Joseph, Bryson, Andres, and Tyler added quality at-bats.
The game came down to the final inning, with Lytle protecting a one-run lead. Poteet loaded the bases with one out, but the Pirates stayed composed. A ground ball to Joseph at shortstop looked to end the threat—but heads-up defense sealed the game. First baseman Noah noticed a runner overrun second, fired a perfect strike back to Joseph, who made the tag to complete a clutch double play and secure the victory for the Pirates.
A poised, team-first finish in a pressure-packed moment.
