Seventh Grade Softball

Seventh Grade
Emma Soto was dominant in the circle, as the pitcher rang up 12 strikeouts in  Seventh Grade’s 8-4 victory over Jourdanton on April 1.  Soto allowed 2 hits and 4 runs over four innings while walking 2. 

Seventh Grade got on the board in the top of the first inning after Elizabeth Davenport grounded out scoring Soto.  Sydney Sollock tripled to centerfield and then scored on a wild pitch. Score 2 to 0.    

Jourdanton tied the game in the bottom of the first thanks to a triple.   

In the top of the second, the Lady Pirates broke up the tie when Bristol Dubose scored on an error. Natalie Rangel Martinez singled to right field and stole her way home giving the Pirates the lead 4 to 2.  

Jourdanton again tied the game at 4-4 in the bottom of the third. 

The Lady Pirates captured the lead, 8-4, in the top of the fourth. Leading off for the Pirates was Sollock who again tripled. Camille Gonzales doubled to center field scoring Sollock. Score 5 to 4.  Jourdanton dropped a third strike, allowing Dubose to get on first. After stealing a couple bases Dubose scored after tagging up off a caught ball to left. Macy Krisch scored on a pass ball leaving the score 8 to 4.   

Rangel Martinez, Dubose, and Gonzales each drove in one run for Seventh Grade. Sollock went 2-for-2 at the plate to lead the Lady Pirates in hits. Seventh Grade had a strong eye at the plate, piling up 5 walks for the game. 

Seventh Grade Lady Pirates will travel to Poteet for their next game tomorrow, April 8.  They remain undefeated.   

Eighth Grade
The game against Jourdanton was a heartbreaker for Eighth Grade on April 1, as they lost the lead late in a 5-4 defeat. Jourdanton was down 4-3 in the bottom of the fourth inning when they doubled, scoring 2 runs. 

Eighth Grade got on the board in the top of the first inning after Priscilla Martinez doubled to left field scoring Alina Gonzalez. Arabella Castro got on after getting hit with a pitch. They both earned steals and Martinez scored on pass ball. Score 2 to 0.    

Jourdanton tied the game up in the bottom of the first thanks to two singles. A walk gave Jourdanton the lead, 3-2, in the bottom of the third. 

A double by Castro gave Eighth Grade the lead, 4-3, in the top of the fourth. With 2 outs in the bottom of the fourth, 2 back to back doubles allowed Jourdanton to take the lead 5 to 4.  Lytle had a chance to respond but with only six minutes left in the game they were unable to deliver.    

Amaya Rodriguez opened the game for the Pirates. The hurler surrendered 9 hits and 5 runs over four innings, striking out 4 and walking 2.  

Castro drove the middle of the lineup, leading Eighth Grade with 2 runs batted in. The outfielder went 1-for-1 on the day. Martinez, Gonzalez, and Castro each collected one hit for Eighth Grade. The Pirates turned one double play in the game. 

Eighth Grade will travel to Poteet for their next game tomorrow, April 8.
