Eighth Grade Softball Team

Seventh Grade
The seventh grade Lady Pirates defeated Hondo 12-0 on March 25.  Lytle jumped out in the top of the first inning after Elizabeth Davenport singled to left field and stole second and third.  Hannah Devaney and Emma Soto both walked.  Davenport stole home to score first for the Pirates as Devaney and Soto scored off Sydney Sollock’s hit to second base who committed an error. Macy Krisch and Bristol Dubose both got hit by a pitch moving Sollock to third.  A pass ball to the catcher allowed Sollock to score. 

Seventh grade added 4 more runs in the top of the third inning on 1 hit. An error scored 1 run, Davenport hit a solo inside the park home run, Soto drew a walk, scoring 1 run, and a passed ball scored 1 run.

Soto began the game for the Pirates. The hurler gave up 0 hits and 0 runs over three innings, striking out 8 and walking 2. Devaney threw one inning of zero-run ball for the seventh grade in relief. The right-handed pitcher surrendered 0 hits, striking out 1 and walking 2.

Dubose led the seventh grade Lady Pirates with 2 runs batted in. The right-handed hitter went 1-for-1 on the day. Davenport set the tone at the top of the lineup, leading seventh grade with 2 hits in two at bats. The team had patience at the plate, collecting 8 walks for the game. Devaney and Soto led the team with 2 free passes each. Devaney, Soto, and Davenport each stole multiple bases for the Lady Pirates. They ran wild on the base paths, accumulating 8 stolen bases for the game. The Pirates turned one double play in the game.

They are now 2-0.

Seventh grade will travel to Jourdanton on April 1 for a 4:30 p.m. game.

Eighth Grade
Amaya Rodriguez struck out 11 batters as the starter led the eighth-grade team past Hondo 11-0 on March 25. Rodriguez surrendered 0 hits and 0 runs over four innings while walking 3.

Eighth grade got on the board in the top of the first inning after Angelina Jimenez tripled, scoring 2 runs, Arabella Castro singled, scoring 1 run, and a steal of home scored 1 run.

The Lady Pirates added to their early lead in the top of the second inning after Hondo dropped a third strike, and Hondo committed an error, each scoring 1 run.

A triple by Priscilla Martinez, a fly out by Castro, and a passed ball helped the eighth grade extend their early lead in the third.

Brooke Shipman hit a solo inside the park home run in the top of the fourth for the Lady Pirates.

Jimenez, Martinez, Shipman, and Castro each drove in 1 run for the team. The Lady Pirates had patience at the plate, accumulating 7 walks for the game. Addison Lara and Alina Gonzalez led the team with 2 bases on balls each.

They are now 2-0

Eighth grade will travel to Jourdanton on April 1 for their next game.
