On December 16, 2024, Senior Vice Commander of VFW Post 837 Richard Thompson arrived at Lytle Junior High to present a special award to eighth grade student, Peyton Leverton during science class. With Junior High Principal Jennifer Sprenger, Assistant Principal Rachel Reyes and her parents, Junior High Teachers Courtney and Shaun Leverton proudly watching, the former US Air Force Major presented Peyton with a congratulatory letter from the Post Commander, a monetary award and a certificate.
