After the smell of natural gas was reported this morning, students and staff were temporarily moved to another location while the situation was assessed. A thorough investigation of classroom and interior spaces of the High School and Junior High found no natural gas or carbon monoxide present. Once school and utility officials confirmed that our buildings were safe, they continued investigating outside, and found a natural gas leak on the exterior of the CTE wing of the High School building. A repair to this exterior line is being made and school operations will continue on a normal schedule for Thursday, January 30, 2025.
The safety of our students and staff is always our top priority. Our local gas provider placed additional odorant to the natural gas system in town and we are aware of similar reports of gas smells, concerns and repairs within the city of Lytle. West Texas Gas service, our provider who completed building inspections confirmed that there is no gas or carbon monoxide present in our classrooms. As always, look to lytleisd.org as well as our district social media channels for the latest information. Parents are always encouraged to contact their campus administrative team if there are questions or concerns.
