For Hispanic Heritage Month 2024, which spans two months - September 15 through October 15, our Child Nutrition teams, headed up by Director Amie Carrillo, served up a super sweet celebration for our tastebuds! Junior High and High School students and staff were treated to a delicious Tres Leches cake - 800+ servings! This special recipe was developed by two of our "Lunch Ladies" Stephanie Villarreal and Alejandra Mora, many agree, it was THE BEST Tres Leches cake ever! A perfect finish to an enchilada, rice and beans lunch. Your mouth will water as you enjoy the photos:
There was no less excitement at the Elementary Cafeteria where cold, scrumptious, fruity paletas were served up just in time to tame a really HOT day. These very loved "Lunch Ladies" are in constant motion as they built the perfect - to specs - frito pies with smiles and greetings that warms the kids' hearts and answers the growls in their tummies. These are some lucky kids and staff. Many smartly started with their desert, "So it wouldn't melt." Enjoy the photos of all the festive fun:
On the final day of this "Tasting Tour" the Primary Child Nutrition team served staff and students warmed marranitos, which are also called cochinitos and puerquitos (all meaning "little pigs" in Spanish). This typical Mexican sweet bread (pan dulce) uses similar spices to a gingerbread. Of course, our Littlest Pirates made it abundantly clear that their "Lunch Ladies" are so loved. These ladies are helping these kids grow providing nutrition as well as patiently guiding them in lessons like, "Don't forget your milk," and, "Hold your tray with two hands," and even, "You're welcome. Thank you for having good manners!" The kids really enjoyed this extra piggy-shaped treat. You'll see something extra in this last photo album! Primary Media Aide, Belinda Huron was helping out in the cafeteria and she was excited to share her Hispanic Heritage Books displayed in the library. Check out the book titles she's excitedly read to the kids, included in this album:
