The Junior High girls have been busy this season playing some great basketball. They have had some losses, but they have been great learning opportunities to prepare them for the games that followed.
On Thursday, January 11, 2024, the girls hosted Cotulla and were lucky because they had all 4 teams for the Lady Pirates to play.
Seventh Grade B-Team: The girls worked hard this day but unfortunately, they were not able to get the win and lost 7-10.
Seventh Grade A-Team: The A-Team girls came out ready to play and made sure that there was not a repeat of the first game of the night. The girls came out strong and won the game 30-4.
Eighth Grade B-Team: The girls continue to grow in their skills and get stronger every week they play. They came out strong against Cotulla and with many of the girls contributing that night, they were able to beat Cotulla 17-2.
Eighth Grade A-Team: The girls came out strong and did not let Cotulla get into the game at all, they held them to 0 points until the 3rd quarter where they only put up 2 points, all Hondo would score in this game. Julie Massiate had a fantastic game, scoring 24 points that night to lead her team to a victory, 38-2.
On January 18, 2024, the two A-Teams traveled to Dilley for a very quick basketball night.
Seventh Grade A-Team: The girls showed up ready to play and did not give Dilley any chance to get close to the score. The girls pushed the ball down the floor and ended the evening with a 51-7 victory.
Eighth Grade A-Team: The Eighth Grade team started the night looking to win just like the Seventh Grade. The girls came out and dominated the court for a 37-13 win.
On January 25, 2024, the Junior High Lady Pirates played Hondo.
The Eighth Grade girls were looking to redeem themselves after a disappointing game when we traveled to Hondo earlier in the season, and the Seventh Grade wanted a repeat. All teams knew that they needed to play strong defense, run the offense, and take control of the game. That is exactly what the Junior High Lady Pirate teams did.
Seventh Grade B-Team: The girls came out a bit flat but made up for it in the 2nd half. Hondo outscored them in the 1st half 4-0 but in the 2nd half the girls settled down and played stronger. They were able to score eight points in the 2nd half and tied with Hondo 8-8.
Seventh Grade A-Team: The girls were ready to repeat the win from playing them previously and in the 1st quarter, they scored 23 points. With many of the girls contributing, the girls won the game 38 – 10.
Eighth Grade B-Team: The girls worked hard, but the baskets were not falling for them that night. They did not score in the 1st half and although the score does not reflect it, they worked hard to try and comeback. They ended the evening losing to Hondo 7-11.
Eighth Grade A-Team: The girls were looking to redeem themselves from a bad loss when they played Hondo previously. The girls knew exactly what to do when they came out on the floor this time and did not disappoint. They came out and played strong defense and were able to score some key points to put them up by 10 at the half. They continued to play strong the rest of the game and finished the night with a well-deserved victory, 28-14.
Thank you so much to the cheerleaders who came to support us. Thank you to the teachers that we always see in the gym. We all appreciate seeing you there, especially the students.
The basketball season ends with the girls traveling to Crystal City on January 29, 2024. Wish these girls good luck when you see them.
