7th grade girls basketball vs Dilley 11-30-2023 phtoto by Alanna Huerta

On November 16, 2023, the Junior High Lady Pirates began their basketball season with a game in Cotulla. Only the 7th Grade A-Team and 8tth Grade A and B-Teams played in this first game, and even with the girls just starting out, they played really well.

The 8th Grade B-Team started the night and kept the game interesting. Elise Cortinas scored 1 point for Lytle when shooting a free throw. Until the last minute of the game, the score stayed 1-1, which would have meant a tie for those girls, but in that minute, Lily Morales put up 2 minutes to have the girls win 3-1.

The 7th Grade A-Team followed and did not disappoint. The girls are coming off a successful volleyball season and are eager to repeat the same success in basketball. If this game was an indication, we should see great things this season from them. By halftime, the girls were up 16-0. They were able to keep Cotulla from scoring and end the game 28-0. Landynn Guzman provided 12 of the 28 points, Daniella Rangel had 5 points. Annabella Simmons provided 4 points, Lila Cortinas had 5 points, and Gia Gonzalez contributed 2 more.

The 8th Grade A-Team finished the night for Lytle and were able to close out with a win. There were several girls who provided support and good defense and helped them come out victorious. The girls finished the night with a score of 15-10. Helping with the victory was Melanie Suarez with 2 points, Mia Rollins with 5 points, Hailey Ward scored 2 points, Mikayla Mejia provided 2 points, and Loundyn Perez scored 2 points off free throws. It was a wonderful start to the season.

On November 30, 2023, the 7th and 8th Grade A-Teams took on Dilley for what was a fun night of basketball.

The 7th grade A-Team came out to set the pace and did not disappoint. They once again kept their opponents from scoring any points. The girls pressed hard most of the night and ended with a 36-0 victory. Landynn Guzman once again led the girls with 15 points, Gia Gonzales had 8 and Lila Cortinas provided 6 points, Daniella Rangel had 5 points, and Annabella Simmons had 2. The girls' next game is this Thursday in Hondo.

The 8th grade girls came out strong also and were ready to get on the floor and follow what the 7th grade did. The girls would press each time they scored and spent most of the night pressing. At the end of the game, the girls were excited about adding another win and did it with a score of 47-11. Julie Massiete scored 28 of those points. Melanie Suarez had 6 points, Ashley Evans scored 5 points, and Madison Hernandez and Mia Rolling each had 4 points.

We are looking forward to a great season and the girls love seeing you all at the games. Thank you for supporting these teams!
