Last night, November 16, 2023, the 8th Grade A-Team began their season here at home vs the Cotulla Cowboys. The game was off to a fast start for both teams as it did not take long to put points up on the board. After a quick timeout, the boys were able to settle in defensively and hold the cowboys to 5 points for the remainder of the first half. They would go up at the break with a slim 17-14 lead. The second half was just as intense as the first. The points became tougher to earn for both sides as defense quickly became the theme of the game. It was very clear this game was going to come down to the last quarter as we were up just 3 heading into the final 7 minutes. Fatigue started to set in, but we had some tremendous help from the rotational players off the bench. The boys would get behind by 5 with little time left, but after a huge 3 point shot from Easton Davila was able to pull the game within reach with just seconds left!
Unfortunately, that is where the rally would end, as the Cowboys would hold on to the win. At the beginning of year, we put a foundation on three words, "Energy, Effort, Enthusiasm". Those were all in play last night. The boys showed tremendous effort, energy, and enthusiasm for one another and being out there competing again! It will be a lot of fun watching them as the season continues.
