Following to two tough losses, Lytle softball is now sitting in third place in district.
Lytle vs. Cotulla
The Lady Pirates took on Cotulla on March 20 and got on the board first in the third inning. Anissa Perez doubled followed by Evelyn Quintana reaching base on an error. Payton Devaney hit to center field scoring Perez.
But Cotulla flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the third, scoring 6 runs on 4 hits to take the lead, 6-1. The biggest blow in the inning was a double that drove in 2.
Christlyn Munoz earned the 9-1 win for Cotulla. The pitcher gave up 4 hits and 1 run (zero earned) over seven innings, striking out 4 and walking 5. Claire Canales took the loss for the Pirates. The righty went six innings, allowing 9 runs (7 earned) on 8 hits, striking out 3 and walking 3.
Avary Hernandez led Lytle with 2 hits in 4 at bats. Canales led with 3 walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, collecting 5 walks for the game.
Lytle vs. Dilley
Lytle was unable to secure the victory against Dilley on March 24, giving the Pirates their second district loss 3-8.
The Pirates were the first to get on the board. Mikailah Mejia tripled and scored off an error.
Dilley made the score 3-1 in the bottom of the first after Kassidy Romero singled, scoring 1 run, and an error scored 2 runs.
Dilley extended their early lead with 2 runs in the bottom of the third thanks to RBI singles by Romero and Danica Cano.
Madelyne Proctor earned the win for Dilley. The pitcher gave up 7 hits and 3 runs (one earned) over seven innings, striking out 2 and walking 3. Claire Canales took the loss for the Pirates. The righty went six innings, giving up 8 runs (four earned) on 8 hits, striking out 6 and walking 4.
Anissa Perez and Mejia each collected 2 hits for Lytle. Autumn Foster and Payton Devaney each drove in 1 run the Pirates. Mejia stole 2 bases. Lytle turned 1 double play in the game.
The Lady Pirates’ record is currently 2-2 and they are in third place behind Cotulla and Hondo. They will travel to Hondo for their next game on March 27.
