Pirate Powerlifters earned second and third-place medals at the Dilley Invitation Meet held Feb. 11.
Senior Evan Syma earned second place in the 114-weight class with a total of 565 pounds.
Senior Jaden Araujo earned third place in the 123-weight class with a total of 840 pounds.
Freshman Brayden Robinette earned third place in the 132-weight class with a total of 660 pounds.
Junior Brayan Rangel Rodriguez earned third place in the 148-weight class with a total of 840 pounds.
The team competed in a packed gym of over 70 lifters. We brought nine athletes ranging from novice to experienced, and they each showed up ready to work.
They fought hard all meet long, pushing themselves to attempt bigger weights than ever before. Some lifts went up, some didn’t, but that’s the nature of this sport. What mattered most was the effort and willingness to take risks on the platform.
Now that we’re over halfway through the season, the intensity is real. The weights are getting heavier, the pressure is building, and yes, frustration shows at times. Like in numerous sports, in powerlifting, failure doesn’t mean defeat! It means growth. Every missed lift is proof that our boys are pushing past their limits and setting new goals.
We know it’s tough in the moment, but the effort, heart, and determination our lifters showed last week is exactly what success looks like. It’s awesome to see how our boys represent our program, supporting each other, battling through tough attempts, and continuing to raise the bar. We are proud of this group and excited to see what they do as we enter the final leg of the regular season!
