Our Lytle tennis athletes hit the courts with heart, hustle, and Pirate pride, taking on tough competition and bringing home first and second-place medals from the Somerset Tournament on Jan. 29-30.
Varsity athletes brought the energy and grit as they played on Jan. 29. Frank Ng made an impressive run to the quarterfinals in Boys Singles, while Jazzy Carillo and Rosendo Gonzalez fought their way into the Mixed Doubles Consolation Finals. Janelle Young and Marlen Vazquez faced quality opponents in Girls Doubles and continued to show growth and toughness, finishing strong in the Consolation Finals.
The medals of the night went to the Mixed Doubles pair Lillian Evans and Anthony Stewart who advanced through early rounds and capped off the night with a second-place finish, taking on a passionate and talented Floresville team in the finals.
At the Junior Varsity level, Emiliano Cardenas played lights-out tennis to earn first place in Boys Singles, battling strong teams from North Side ISD Harlan, Floresville, and Somerset.
In Girls Doubles, the dynamic duo of Robin Alvarez and Emma Hemenway returned to the court and showed exactly why they’re a force to be reckoned with, capturing first place.
And let’s talk resilience—Alle Dempsey shook off a first-round loss in frigid conditions against Somerset, regrouped with determination, and powered her way to a Consolation Finals win in Girls Singles. Way to bounce back!
Overall, our athletes represented Lytle with class, effort, and perseverance. We couldn’t be prouder of the way they competed, supported one another, and left it all on the court.
