Girls Basketball vs. Cotulla

The Lady Pirates brought home an exciting win when they downed Cotulla 69-64 in a double-overtime thriller on Jan. 27.

The girls started out so slow and we were down by 15 at one point, but they woke up in the fourth quarter and outscored Cotulla 25-15. Then with three seconds left on the clock, we called a timeout and drew up a play up for Aliana Cardenas who got fouled on her way to the basket. With no time on the clock, Aliana knocked down both free throws to take us into overtime. The girls battled and showed so much grit to get this win. Aliana, Zabella Garza and Landynn Guzman all fouled out. In double overtime, Loundyn Perez did her defensive assignment to stop their number four. Mia Rollins and Haylee Ward played their biggest games for us when their team needed them the most. Lilly Gallegos and Lila Cortinas took care of the ball in the most intense times. Lila came through to knock down crucial free throws to get us the win.

As a coach, this was the biggest team win we have had in a long time. The bench was cheering their teammates on, and everyone was fighting to come out on top.

I am so proud of all the girls and they definitely deserved that WIN.
