Your Lytle Pirate XC teams both qualified for the State Meet on October 20 in Corpus Christi. The girls finished as Runner-Ups and qualified for the state meet for the 4th time in the last five years. The boys won their 3rd straight Regional Title and 6th in the last seven years. They qualify for the State Meet for the 8th year in a row and the 11th time in our recent history.
The girls started the morning at 8 am on a relatively humid day. Senior Frances Scotello was an individual medalist, finishing 6th and claiming All-Regional Honors. Freshman Annalise Quintanilla also received All-Region Honors(Top 15) as she finished 14th and became only the second freshman(Eisabel Guerrero 2019) to make All-Region. Not far behind her were Elyse Cortinas(17th), Svetlana Lopez(18th), Kaycee Galindo(36th), Addison Wagner(57th), and Klayre Cook(64th) out of 180 runners.
For the varsity boys, Freshman Jacob Cantu used a strong last mile to become the first Lytle freshman to claim the Individual Regional Title and the third to win it in recent history (Brandon Lacy 2009, Cesar Gonzalez 2012). He, along with Senior Diego Reyna(6th), were the boys' medalist(Top 10) and All-Region finisher. Also claiming All-Region honors were Adrian Reyna(11th) and Senior Bryan Montes-Rodriguez(15th), who had a better race today, being only his 2nd race after sitting out a whole month. Completing the team and not too far behind were Nathan Garza(27th), Sebastian Garcia(28th), and Jaden Castro(36th) out of 177 runners.
The team now gets ready for what they have been training for since we left Round Rock last year after the State meet. A chance for the girls to get on that State medal stand for the 3rd time in the last 4 years and make up for their absence last year. For the boys to not only get on the stand for the 9th time in 11 tries, but to also defend their State Title and try to win 3 of the last four 3A titles and 4th overall.
