NHS Treasurer Isabella Sewell lit the candle symbolic of scholarship, which “knows of the past, learns from the present, and plans for the future.” Sewell concluded saying, "Candidates have the charge to continually expand their world through the opportunities inherent in scholarship.”
NHS Historian Gabriela Cortez then lit the candle that signifies the brightness and joy of service, the unselfish devotion of serving individuals, the school, and the nation. Cortez adds, “We are committed to volunteering our time and talents to the creation of a better tomorrow."
NHS Secretary Klayre Cook lit the candle of Leadership and after explaining the full meaning, said, “Leadership is always needed; thus, to lead is a meaningful and substantive charge to each of our members.”
NHS Vice President Nayelli Pacheco lit the purple candle symbolic of character. After sharing the NHS objectives of character, she concluded saying, “By demonstrating such qualities as respect, responsibility, trustworthiness, fairness, caring, and citizenship, we may hope to prove by example that we value character.”
Inductees stood to be called out as the candidates for admission: Kylie Cantu, Payton Devaney, Sebastian Garcia, Mari Guerrero, Svetlana Lopez, Katelyn Stech and Addison Wagner.
After the new members took their pledge to uphold the high purposes of the NHS, their candles were lit, they received their certificates of membership, and they signed the registry book. NHS Sponsor, Ms. Morgan Clyde addressed all in attendance, "Thank you for coming to welcome these remarkable students into this esteemed organization. This is my first year as the sponsor of the Lytle Chapter of the NHS, and even knowing that NHS holds all these pillars as requirements for membership, I was not prepared for the embodiment that I’ve seen from these inductees. From volunteer work within our community, to outstanding academic performance, to even serving in officer positions, these students have gone above and beyond this year, proving that they not only belong in the National Honor Society, but are beacons of leadership on our campus and in our community. Congratulations, and welcome to the Lytle chapter of the National Honor Society."
