Your Lytle Pirate XC team traveled to Corpus Christi for the Islander XC meet, site of the Regional XC Meet to be held on October 20th, 2025 for 1A-3A-5A.
This meet is a small preview of what we will expect to see in October, and it gives us an idea of the things we need to work on until then.
It is crazy to go to such a big meet, finish 1st and 2nd in such a huge field and be just a little disappointed in some of our performances, but that goes to show you how far this program has come and what our standards and expectations are.
The Varsity boys for the first time did not run up(in Large school 5A & 6A) and competed in their division against 36 other 1A-4A teams and came away with a win even though a couple did not run their best races. Freshman Jacob Cantu took the lead with a mile to go and extended it through the last half mile and captured his FIRST Individual HS victory and helped lead the boys to an over 40-point victory over Runner Up IDEA Pharr. Coming in not far behind him were Adrian Reyna(8th), Diego Reyna(9th), Sebastian Garcia(14th), Jaden Castro(42nd), and Weston Cook(154th) out of 344 runners.
We hope to get one of our varsity boys back(Nathan Garza) this week after being out since the start of August and the other (Bryan Montes-Rodriguez) who was been out the last 3 weeks, hopefully the week before district so we can be at full strength leading into our Championship season.
The Varsity girls finished 2nd out of 50 teams behind #1 1A Tilden McMullen and ahead of #2 3A Poth. We lost by 4 points even though a few of our girls had sub-par performances, but they learned a lot and will apply what they learned this next week. Frances Scotello led our girls with her 7th place finish in a very large field of 399 Runners and 50 teams. Behind her were Svetlana Lopez(21st), Elyse Cortinas(23rd), Annalise Quintanilla (24th), Klayre Cook(68th), Kimora Sanchez(84th), Addison Wagner(97th), Kaycee Galindo(129th), and Isabella Sewell(181st).
The varsity teams next travel to Round Rock this week to compete at the Hoka McNeil Invitational, the site of the State XC meet and a PREVIEW of what we will see if we are lucky enough to return on Halloween Day.
