Varsity Volleyball Learns Valuable Lessons in the Weeks Leading to District Play

In a season marked by adversity, the Lytle Pirate volleyball team is proving that grit, growth, and unity matter just as much as the scoreboard. Though the win column hasn’t filled up the way we’ve hoped, younger athletes have stepped up with courage and determination, gaining valuable experience and showing flashes of brilliance that hint at a promising future. Wins are great, but what we see in this group is something deeper: character, commitment, and a refusal to quit.

Despite the challenges, the Pirate Volleyball team will keep their heads high. Practices are filled with laughter, sweat, and the unmistakable sound of teammates lifting each other up. Sophomore captain, Danica Sarmiento, currently recovering from an acl injury, has become a vocal leader from the sidelines, mentoring our younger players and keeping morale strong.

Freshman libero Lila Cortinas, thrust into a starting role, has been a revelation; diving for impossible saves and energizing the crowd with her fearless play. The team has been on a three-week tournament binge where they competed against a mixture of big teams from across South Texas as well as previous state champions. We’ve learned valuable lessons and now know exactly what we need to do in order to be successful in district play and continue to grow as a team. As the season continues, the team is focused not just on recovery and results, but on building a legacy of resilience. With every serve, spike, and set, they’re writing a story that goes beyond the scoreboard, a story of heart.

The teams take on San Antonio Memorial @ Home, Tuesday, September 2nd, (5/ 6/ 7)

Thank you,
