This past Tuesday, February 18, 2025. the Pirates season ended with a loss to Northern Oaks HS 89-48 in a Bi-District Playoff. Due to the new playoff format, we played a team that was state ranked over half the season and not their three or four seed in their district like previous years. So going into the game we knew it was going to be a tough first round opponent . All night the Pirates struggled shooting and couldn't find the bottom of the net . The Pirates shot 26 percent from the field which is recipe for disaster. Northern oaks on the other hand were hot all game and shot 59 percent as a team. We also lost the rebound battle due to their height advantage over the Pirates. They out rebounded us 50-27 but our boys gave it what they had on the boards but just too small in height to get it done. Senior Zach Perez led the team with 18 points and 7 rebounds. Junior Chase Guevara added 15 points and 3 assists to his career totals. Although it was a devasting loss in the first round, something our program is not accustomed to the boys ended the season 20-11 overall, 28-3A District Champions with a 13-1 record, and state ranked for a few weeks. Overall, it was a successful season from all the work they put in since May. The Next group of Pirates know we expect more next season and are ready to start working on their game after spring break. We appreciate all the support our boys received throughout the year from parents, school admin and teachers, our community, student body ,and last but definitely not least, Mayor Ruben Gonzalez who made almost every game and spread his positivity each game night. The players always checked his social media the next day to see if their selfie made the cut. Thank You MAYOR!!!!
Till Next Season,
Head Boys Basketball Coach Jacob Hernandez
