Hello Pirate Nation,
The season is officially under way and the Pirates went 1-1 to start the season. This past Tuesday the Pirates took on the Devine Warhorses and cruised to a 70-56 victory. Although the Pirates were in control the whole game, the hostile visitors side made the game a playoff atmosphere which brought some adversity through the game. The Warhorse crowd was able to rattle the Pirates at the free throw line which was the only sign of weakness of the night going 10-27 from the line. Besides that, the Pirates forced 14 steals and an additional 15 deflections on the defensive side of the ball to keep a steady lead throughout the game. Offensively the Pirates were led by Senior Zachary Perez who scored 18 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Junior Chase Guevarra was relentless on the defensive end and having 5 steals, 4 deflections and scoring 15 points. Finally, Sophomore Seth Pierce had himself a double-double scoring 14 points and 16 rebounds. He was an issue on the boards for the Warhorses all night.
This past Friday the Pirates traveled to the westside of San Antonio to play traditional basketball powerhouse of SAISD the Lanier Voks. With three starters out due to various injuries the Pirates lost 68-38. With the majority of the starting lineup out, the Pirates could not get anything going. It was rough night all the way around. The Pirates will have the week off and return to play Monday Nov 25 vs Fox Tech HS.
