Junior Varsity Football team with coaches

Thank you, Coach Clayton Jopling for sharing the challenges this team has faced in Bandera and Carrizo Springs. It takes a lot of heart to fight hard till the end, and hard work in practice always pays off. Our home crowd will be ready to cheer our Seventh Grade, Eighth Grade and Junior Varsity Pirate Football teams to victory against the Pearsall Mavericks.

It has been a tough two weeks for our JV football team. However, these tough past two weeks have taught our students athletes a lot about who they are and what they can become. After coming off a 44-20 loss to Bandera, which was a game of turn overs, not in our favor, and special teams. Our JV boys were anxious to get back on the field against Carrizo Springs. We started the game off by scoring on our first offensive play of the game, unfortunately that would be our only time finding the endzone. Our defense faced a tough offense that chipped away yards that kept our offense off the field most of the night. The score at halftime was 14-8 Carrizo Springs. Our offense didn't touch the ball in the second half until 8 minutes left in the fourth quarter. The game was tight until about 5 minutes left when Carrizo was able to score 8 unanswered points to take the lead to 22-8. I was proud of how our boys fought to the very end of the game. They never gave up nor did they hang their heads. I was really proud of how they responded today for our Monday practice starting at 6:40 in the morning! If you see these young student athletes around campus, please let them know how great of a job they are doing. Also, thanks for all you do! Hopefully we can get a crowd this Thursday against Pearsall because I know these boys are hungry and ready to bounce back! (Editor's note: The Thursday, September 26 game that was formerly scheduled in Pearsall has been moved to our home Walter H. Joyce Stadium!)

Thanks,

JV Coaches
