Varsity Boys Basketball at Poteet Tournament

What a week for the young Pirates of Lytle. The Pirates are 9-0, after winning six games this week, including the tournament championship at the Poteet Invitational.

The Pirates started off the week beating Jourdanton 65-48. The Pirates were led by Chase Guevara who had 14 points and 9 rebounds, Senior Jayden Perez scoring 12 pts, and Freshman Newcomer Seth Pierce had 13 points and 15 rebounds.

On Thursday, November 30, 2023, the Pirates traveled to Poteet, the land of strawberries, to pull off five straight wins and the tournament championship. The Pirates are starting to learn how play defense and finish games in clutch situations. Freshman Seth Pierce had a coming out party letting our future district opponents know that he will be a force to be reckoned with. The kid averaged 15 points per game and earned Tournament MVP. What a way to start off his High School career. We couldn't be prouder of how he's played these last six games. Junior Zach Perez earned a spot on the all-tournament team, averaging 14.8 points per game while learning to run the team offense consistently. Sophomore Chase Guevara averaged 10 points ppg and was ruthless on the defensive side of the ball, shutting down key players from each team. Senior Jayden Perez led the Pirates to the championship victory, scoring 21 points while knocking down 5 three pointers. I feel both the two young men should have been on the tournament team as well, but the snub should build character and motivation for the next tournament.
