An awesome Homecoming Football Game win and half-time Royalty Announcements made the night one to remember! The recognition given to our students who were chosen by their peers, and the honors bestowed on three community members chosen for their contributions to our schools and town made the night magical. The freshman class homecoming representatives are Vanessa Ayala and Jayden Motes. Freshmen Marque, Jayden Motes is the son of Ashley Botello and Erik Uribe. He is involved in football, basketball, track and baseball. The freshmen Marques is Vanessa Ayala. Vanessa is the daughter of Mario and Veronica Ayala. She is on the varsity girls Cross Country team which just won the Bronze Medal at State competition, and she enjoys photography.
The sophomore class homecoming representatives are Antonio Castro and Nevaeh Renteria. Sophomore Duke is Antonio “2Tone” Castro. Antonio is the son of Antonio and Veronica Castro. Antonio is a member of the varsity football and also a part of the basketball, track, and baseball teams. Sophomore Dutchess is Nevaeh Renteria. Nevaeh is the daughter of Krystal Ferrer and Tony Cepeda. She is a varsity cheerleader and also plays volleyball and runs track.
The junior class of homecoming representatives are Prince Joseph Garcia and Princess Arianna Garcia. Joseph is the son of Daniel and Marisol Garcia. He is an active part of Skull Studios and photography. His favorite class is the audio/video production class. Princess Arianna Garcia is the daughter of Jorge and Norma Garcia. She is involved in Culinary Arts and plays varsity basketball. She is also a member of the National Honor Society.
The six candidates for Homecoming King and Queen chosen were nominated by the Senior Class. Drew Gonzales is the son of Josh and Christina Del Toro. He plays varsity football and is involved with basketball. Thalia Bowman is the daughter of Liliana and John Bowman. She is the uniform manager and clarinet player for the Pirate Band. She is involved in Skull Studios, National Honor Society, Yearbook Club, and is the Senior Class Secretary. Stefan Grigsby is the son of David and Boryana Emery. He is a section leader in band, a cast member in the Lytle High School Fall play, co-host of the Daily Booty morning announcements, and a National Honor Society inductee. Selena Duron is the daughter of Carlos and Blanca Duron. She is involved in the Culinary Program and Pirate Pals. Amadeus Trejo-Perez is the son of Priscilla Trejo, Jose Avila, and in-spirit, Ernesto Perez. He is involved with varsity football, powerlifting, and track. Camrie Gonzalez is the daughter of Carlos and Robbie Gonzalez. She is a varsity cheerleader and was involved in Pirate Pals.
Congratulations to the entire Homecoming Court. We are pleased to announce the 2023 Homecoming King is Stefan Grigsby and the Homecoming Queen is Thalia Bowman.
Also, during half time, the Lytle Ex-Students Association announced several honors for community members.
The 2023 Grand Marshal for the Homecoming Parade is Mr. Richard Cortez, who attended Lytle High School and served in the US Army for 20 years. He served in Vietnam as an infantry man, receiving the bronze star and two purple hearts. While in Desert Storm, he served with his two sons, Richard and Dion Cortez. He also served 31 years in Civil Service as an engineer and nine years as a foreman at Kelly and Lackland Air Force Base. Mr. Cortez has served the Lytle Community in various clubs, the Lytle School Board, and in the Catholic Church as a lector. He is proud of his family and their ties to the Lytle Community. He and his wife Ninfa have three sons who all graduated from Lytle High School. Mr. Cortez would like to send a special thanks to the community for those supporting our young men and women that are serving our country in the U.S. and abroad in countries in conflict. Congratulations to this year’s Grand Marshal, Richard Cortez.
The 2023 Alumni Homecoming Queen is Ana Maria Garcia Chapa. This lovely lady has been a member of our Lytle community for 81 years. She is the daughter of the late Santiago and Antonia Garcia. She attended Lytle High School from 1957 to 1960. During that time, she was a member of the basketball team and advanced to varsity as a freshman. In her sophomore year, she achieved letterman status. She was on the cheer squad and served as circulation manager for the Lytle Highlight. Ana graduated in 1960, receiving recognition for excellence in academics, extracurricular activities and community services by nomination into the Who’s Who of American High School Students. After high school, she married Richard Chapa, recently reaching their 61st anniversary. Together, they had three daughters, also alumni of Lytle High School. In 1977, she returned to Lytle as an employee of the high school cafeteria staff for 10 years. Even today, she is well received and greeted by numerous students who she served warm meals with a smile for 10 years. Congratulations to this year’s Queen - Ana Maria Chapa.
The 2023 Alumni Homecoming King is Winston Hoffman. Winston spent his first 18 years on a farm south of Lytle. He was involved in the Lytle FFA and played basketball at Lytle High School. He graduated valedictorian in 1953. He paid his way through college selling cookware. He was a Broker of Real Estate and Medical insurance. In 2004 he became a founding member of Compumatrix International, a crypto-currency company of which he is now on the board of directors. Currently, Winston is an elite member of Cryptosaversclub.com. Winston has 7 kids, 11 grandkids, and 7 great grandkids. Congratulations to this year’s King - Winston Hoffman.
The Classes of 1972 & 1973 were honored since it has been 50 years since they walked the halls of Lytle High School. Finally, Lytle Ex-Students who have returned to Lytle to be a part of the Lytle ISD faculty and staff were recognized for their service in our schools and choice to influence the next generation of Lytle Pirates.
