Children use the new climbing wall at the Primary gym

Lytle Primary School held an Open House on Sept. 24 to give the community an opportunity to see the addition that has been under construction for more than a year. With just a few, small finishing touches left to do, the project is $1 million under budget and providing our littlest Pirates custom learning spaces, state-of-the-art technology and room to grow. And it’s providing nearby neighbors a beautiful pocket park created in the space of the detention pond that was required by building code.

Visitors expressed excitement and pride as they made their way through the new facility that was made possible by a $20 million bond approved by the community in 2024. The bond provided 16 new classrooms, a new gym, custom Pirate-themed playground improvements and new visitor parking spaces. In addition, the bond covered playground improvements at the Elementary School that were completed in May, and an addition to the District Transportation and Maintenance Center that is still under construction.

Visitors saw several thoughtful features throughout the Primary campus:

  • Rubber floors – Durable, low-maintenance, slip-resistant floors that reduce noise and offer cushioning underfoot.

  • ADA playground addition – The new play structure includes a custom Pirate ship that is ADA accessible.

  • Detention pond – A detention pond to capture run-off water was required by building code, but landscaping was added to create a beautiful park-like setting.

  • The new gym – The cafeteria no longer has to do double-duty. The students now have a dedicated fitness space complete with a rock-climbing wall!

  • More parking – 80+ parking spaces have been added at the Primary with two new visitor lots, and added spaces along the front of the building.

Lytle ISD thanks Marksmen General Contractors and PBK Architects for their partnership on the bond projects. Most of all, we thank the Lytle community for investing in spaces where our children can learn, play and grow for years to come.
