Ahoy, mateys! Lytle ISD will celebrate International Talk Like a Pirate Day a little early this year—on Friday, Sept. 18.

The Lytle community is encouraged to dress and talk like pirates or wear their favorite Lytle Pirate spirit attire throughout the day. Eye patches, pirate hats and plenty of “Arrrghs” are welcome. Parrots should probably stay home.

International Talk Like a Pirate Day officially falls on Sept. 19. The holiday began in 1995 with two friends from Oregon and gained widespread attention in 2002 after Pulitzer Prize-winning humor columnist Dave Barry promoted it in his syndicated column.

Naturally, Lytle Pirates have made the holiday our own. Each year, campuses celebrate with creative costumes, plenty of Pirate slang and a shipload of Lytle pride.

So, yo-ho-ho, me hearties! Don’t be a landlubber on Friday. Gather your finest Pirate attire and help us celebrate Lytle ISD’s unofficial feast day!
