Our loss to Crystal City on Sept. 8 was disappointing because we struggled to find consistency and did not play with the confidence or urgency we needed. However, I was proud of the way the girls responded against Cotulla on Sept. 11. They returned to the court focused, played together, and demonstrated the resilience we have been asking of them.
The biggest difference between the two matches was our energy and execution. Against Crystal City, we were hesitant and allowed mistakes to affect us for several points at a time. Against Cotulla, we played more aggressively, communicated better, and remained in control. We served tougher, handled the ball more consistently, and did a better job of moving on to the next play after a mistake.
Cotulla game highlights included:
Karley Aguilera: 10 assists, 4 kills, and 3 digs
Lila Cortinas: 20 assists, 10 digs, and 2 aces
Madison Hernandez: 9 kills, 6 digs, 1 block, and 1 ace
Macey Ford: 8 kills
Emma Fernandez: 5 kills and 4 digs
Lillian Evans: 4 kills and 3 digs
Mikailah Mejia: 17 digs
Priscilla Martinez: 7 digs
Loundyn Perez: 7 digs
Milahni Mejia: 5 digs
Payton Devaney: 1 kill
Our younger teams also had an outstanding weekend at the Jourdanton Tournament! JV1 captured the tournament championship after defeating Tilden, Poteet, and Jourdanton. They now have two tournament Championships under their belt. Standout players included Savannah Solis, Sydney Solis, Lilliana Gallegos, and Gia Gonzales. JV2 also had an impressive tournament, finishing in second place.
The Lytle Volleyball program is definitely growing in both size and competitiveness, and we are incredibly proud of the progress being made at every level!
Next, we will face Carrizo Springs on Sept. 15, which is coming in with confidence following a big win over Natalia. We must prepare with purpose and be ready to compete from the opening serve. After that, we will turn our attention to Natalia on Sept. 18. We respect both opponents and will continue studying what they do well while focusing on disciplined Lytle volleyball.
