The XC team traveled to New Braunfels early in the morning on Sept. 4 to participate in the Long Creek XC Invitational for the first time in our history. It was a great field, with lots of fast individuals, but we held our own and had some great performances.
The Varsity boys finished 4th out of 18 with Jacob and Adrian again leading our group. Our seniors had a better outing though one may be out till District after having tightness in his calf. Our Varsity girls had some great performances against some tough 4A runners with Annalise and Elyse both finishing in the top 15.
The JV boys also have had a couple of injuries that prevented them from scoring as a team (must have 5 members running). Shawn Robinette had a top 10 finish and will now have to join the Varsity during the Islander Meet Sept. 12 to fill the void left by Nathan.
The JV girls probably had the best overall showings as Hailey finally got some competition from some 6A schools and managed to come from behind and then break away from the threat to claim 1st. Kaycee Galindo also had a great performance as she is coming back from injuries and getting back into shape. Freshman Haleigh Monreal also had a great race as she finished with her best outing this year.
The team next travels to Corpus for a Regional Preview, where we find out what our chances are and what we need to work on if we want to make a return trip to the State Meet.
