JV1 Volleyball brought home some CHAMPIONSHIP hardware from the Edgewood Tournament! They went 3-0 defeating Brackenridge, Providence, and Memorial during the Sept. 5 tournament. All-Tournament player was Savannah Solis with 22 Kills, 10 Digs, 6 Aces, and 1 Block!
The Lytle Pirates Varsity Volleyball team is officially entering district play Sept. 8, as they travel to Crystal City for their first district match of the season!
The Pirates are coming off two very competitive matches that provided valuable experience as they prepare for the challenges of district.
On Sept. 1, Lytle earned a 3-0 victory over Providence Catholic. The offensive attack was led by Lillian Evans and Emma Fernandez, who each recorded 9 kills. Madison Hernandez added 7 kills, while Macey Ford contributed 6 kills and 2 blocks.
Julie Massiate led the offense with 29 assists while also recording 10 digs. Defensively, Loundyn Perez and Mikailah Mejia each had 11 digs, while Lila Cortinas and Karley Aguilera each contributed 8 digs.
The Pirates then faced Medina Valley Creek View on Sept. 4, a team they had previously defeated 2-0 at the Southwest Tournament. This time, Creek View came away with a 3-1 victory.
As the saying goes, "Never underestimate an opponent you have already beaten, they're the dangerous ones;" it was a humbling experience for Lytle.
Although the result wasn't what the Lady Pirates wanted, the match showcased tremendous effort and determination, particularly on defense.
Loundyn Perez led the team with an incredible 42 digs, while Julie Massiate recorded 32 digs and 30 assists. Emma Fernandez led the offense with 10 kills, and Lillian Evans contributed 7 kills, 7 blocks, and 24 digs.
The defensive effort continued with Priscilla Martinez recording 27 digs, Mikailah Mejia with 26, Milahni Mejia with 25, and Lila Cortinas with 24 digs.
Now, the Pirates turn their attention to the district race.
While the competition across the net will certainly be challenging, one of our biggest challenges right now is staying healthy. Having all of our athletes healthy, strong, and ready to compete will be critical as we enter district play.
We are excited to see what this group can accomplish and encourage all of Lytle ISD to support, encourage, and cheer on our Lady Pirates as they begin their journey toward the postseason!
