Pieper Relays

Your Lytle Pirates Cross Country team got up bright and early to make the trek out to Pieper Middle School to compete in the 2026 Pieper Warrior Relays.  It was a relay format where most schools brought teams of four to run a 6-mile relay with each athlete running 1.5 miles.  Schools who couldn't field a full team of four, had to have some athletes run twice to complete the race.

Your Lytle girls have been battling some early injuries, so we only fielded one group in the Varsity Division. The girls ran well, finishing 19th out of 29 schools. Members competing were Elyse Cortinas, Annalise Quintanilla, Haleigh Monreal, and Addison Wagner.

The boys fielded three teams, two on the varsity and one on the JV. The JV boys consisting of only three members (Weston Cook, Zane Davenport, and Kaleb Cantu) finished a strong 18th out of 49 schools with Weston Cook having to run both the first and last leg.

The varsity had two groups competing. The group of Jaden Castro, Chase Burley, Frank Cantu and Shawn Robinette finished a strong 15th/36 as three of these athletes were competing in their first Varsity competition. The group of Sebastian Garcia, Nathan Garza, Adrian Reyna and Jacob Cantu had to deal with adversity before we even left as Sebastian caught a stomach bug and did not compete, which meant that Jacob would have to run two legs. Even through all that, they finished second, just one second behind 6A Northside Brandeis.

It was a great way to start our year. Now the real races begin, starting this Friday at the 2026 SA Friday Night Lights XC Meet
