Lytle ISD honored its substitute teachers at a Substitute Teacher Appreciation Dinner on April 23, celebrating the important role they play across the district.
Superintendent Dr. Dustin Breithaupt thanked the substitutes for their dedication, emphasizing that the work of the district would not be possible without their support. School Board Trustee Mae Flores also shared special thanks for their contributions. Each substitute teacher received a gift bag and a commemorative coin in recognition of their service, and district leadership served dinner to show their appreciation.
The evening also featured the inaugural Substitute Teacher Awards, recognizing outstanding service in several categories:
Spirit Award – Olivia Martinez was honored for her dedication to Pirate athletics and her enthusiastic support at school events, earning the title of the Pirates’ biggest fan.
Outstanding Primary Service Award – Graciela Medrano was recognized for her commitment to Lytle’s littlest Pirates, completing 108 days of service, all at the Primary School.
Outstanding Attendance and Service Award – Idalia Castillo was recognized for serving the most days during the school year, with 125 days.
Distinguished Service in Education Award – Wanda Wells was honored for 17 years of exemplary service as a substitute teacher.
Lytle ISD is grateful for the dedication, flexibility, and care that substitute teachers provide every day. Their commitment helps ensure students continue learning and thriving, even when regular classroom teachers are away.
