Capturing Kids' Hearts District Award

Lytle ISD is proud to announce it is being recognized once again as a Capturing Kids’ Hearts® (CKH) National Showcase District, with every campus also earning National Showcase School status for the 2025-2026 school year – the second year in a row. The district is one of only 85 nationwide to earn the designation.

“This award is recognition for the efforts of our teachers and staff who go above and beyond to create safe, supportive and engaging learning environments,” said Lytle ISD Superintendent Dr. Dustin Breithaupt.

It reflects the efforts of teachers, administrators, and staff who work daily to support student social emotional well-being alongside academics and build meaningful connections by:

  • Greeting students each day with a handshake, high five or hug

  • Conducting informal mental health checks

  • Starting classes with “Good Things,” a dedicated time to share positive personal news

  • Creating classroom social contracts outlining how they will interact with each other

  • Giving shout-outs to recognize effort and show appreciation

Lytle has been building toward this for years, starting with its Primary and Elementary schools earning the designation in 2018, adding the junior high in 2023, becoming a full showcase district in 2024, and bringing the high school on board in 2025.

“Recognition from Capturing Kids’ Hearts requires dedication and consistency,” said Dr. Breithaupt. “This is a testament to the heart of our teachers and the strength of our community.”
