The seventh and eighth grade softball teams started their seasons with wins against Natalia on March 18. The seventh-grade team took down the Mustangs 17-4, while the eighth graders dominated with a 10-0 win.
Seventh Grade
Elizabeth Davenport drove in 4 runs on 3 hits to lead the seventh grade. She singled in the first scoring 2, doubled in the fourth scoring 2, and tripled in the third scoring 1.
Natalia tied the game in the bottom of the first, 4-4. In the top of the second, the Pirates took the lead back with hits from Bristol Dubose and Madelyn Sanchez. The Mustangs could not answer as Emma Soto struck out the first three hitters ending the second 8-4.
Soto then started the third with a triple to left field and scored as Davenport also hit a triple to centerfield. Davenport then scored from a double by Sydney Sollock. Sollock scored on a hit from Macy Krisch. Once again, the next three batters for Natalia struck out, ending the third with a score 12-4.
Lytle extended their lead with help from Natalia with 4 walks and 2 hit by the pitch as well as a double to centerfield by Davenport. The game ended 17-4.
Eighth Grade
Eighth grade got on the board in the top of the first after Alina Gonzalez singled to the left side, Priscilla Martinez tripled to centerfield and a dropped third strike each scored one run.
An error extended Lytle’s lead to 4-0 in the second. Lytle added to their early lead in the top of the third when Arabella Castro doubled, scoring 2 runs and Milahni Mejia singled scoring 1. Brooke Shipman added to lead when she hit an inside the park homerun brining home 3. The game ended 10-0.
Amaya Rodriguez earned the win. The right-handed pitcher allowed 1 hit and 0 runs. She struck out 9 and walked 0. The eighth grade tallied 11 hits and 10 runs.
Next Up
The teams will take to the field again on March 25 as they travel to Hondo to take on the Owls. Seventh grade plays at 5 p.m. and eighth grade begins at 6:15 p.m.
