Junior Varsity
The Lytle JV Tennis Team had an outstanding showing on Jan. 15 in their first competition of the season at the SAISD Tournament. The players exceeded expectations across the board, with several athletes advancing through at least two rounds in the main draw, while others battled their way all the way to the consolation finals.
A special congratulations goes to sophomores Melanie Suarez and Macey Ford, who advanced to the Girls Doubles Consolation Finals. They competed with grit and determination, ultimately falling in a hard-fought match against a very strong Sotomayor team.
This impressive first outing reflects the hard work and dedication of the entire JV squad, and it sets up a strong tone for the rest of the season.
Varsity
The Lytle Varsity Tennis Team competed deep into the draw on Jan. 16 against strong opponents from 4A, 5A, and 6A schools, showcasing determination and growth throughout the tournament.
One of the standout performances came from Girls Doubles team Senior Kellyahn Castano and Junior Aubrey Solis, who advanced to the quarterfinals in the main draw, while facing some exceptionally strong competition. Their perseverance, patience, and trust in one another paid off as they pushed themselves into the deeper rounds of the main draw.
In the Boys Doubles, Senior Frank Ng and Junior Rosendo Gonzalez faced a state-qualifying team from Carrizo Springs. Though the match was tough, Frank and Rosendo demonstrated remarkable resilience and grit, covering the court relentlessly and finding creative ways to compete point by point against an elite team.
While the overall results came with challenges, the effort, heart, and competitiveness displayed by the varsity squad made this performance one to be proud of.
