The girls basketball team took care of business Jan. 13 beating Natalia 47-31, putting Lytle at 4-2 in district play and securing the fourth-place spot.
It was close the entire first half but we hit a 3 pointer from Loundyn Perez and then she made a basket at the buzzard to take the lead 16-14 heading into halftime. We made some adjustments and focused on keeping our defense solid on our press to get some turnovers and steals. We had a big second half outscoring Natalia 31-16. We scored 17 points off their turnovers and we grabbed 14 steals.
I am so proud of this team! They have come through on the games where it was really needed in this first round of district.
Leading the team were:
Aliana Cardenas with a season high 21 points, 8 rebounds, 1 assist and 2 steals; she was our player of the game!
Landynn Guzman had 9 points 6 rebounds, 3 assists and 7 steals
Zabella Garza with 7 points, 10 rebounds and 1 assist
Loundyn Perez with 5 points, 4 rebounds, 1 assist and 2 steals
Lilly Gallegos with 4 points, 3 rebounds and 1 steal
Lila Cortinas with 1 point, 1 rebound and 2 steals
Up Next
The girls will travel to Jourdanton on Jan. 16 to take on the number one seed in the district. Tipoff is 6 p.m.
Thank you to everyone who came to the games last night. Having the gym packed really helped both teams!
