The Lytle Pirate XC team passed its first test in its CHAMPIONSHIP SEASON advancing to the Regional Meet by winning both the Varsity Boys and Girls District 28-3A XC Championships in dominate fashion.
The girls won with a PERFECT SCORE of 15 points(claiming the top 5 spots) for the 2nd time(2022) in the last 4 years while capturing their 6th STRAIGHT District Championship. Frances Scotello put herself in the Lytle XC RECORD BOOKS again becoming only the 2nd runner(Brandon Lacy '08-'10) in our recent history('03-'25) to win 3 Individual District Championships('23-'25) and the first female to accomplish this difficult feat. She also becomes only the 2nd female(Natalie Cortez '12-'15) to medal in the top 10 in District all 4 years and the 5th in our recent history(Brandon Lacy '07-'10, Adrian Valdez '09-'12, Jose Cortez '18-'21). The team used its tight pack running of 26 seconds between our top 5 runners to help dominate the field. Senior Svetlana Lopez finished as the District Runner-Up for the 2nd straight year and helped pace the rest of the pack as their spread was only 6 seconds apart. Freshman Annalise Quintanilla had a great showing finishing 3rd, followed by Kaycee Galindo 4th, Klayre Cook 5th, Elyse Cortinas 7th and Addison Wagner 14th out of 41 runners.
The varsity boys also won in similar fashion, scoring 18 points and giving up only the 3rd spot. It is the boy's 8th STRAIGHT DISTRICT CHAMPIONSHIP AND 16th IN THE LAST 20 YEARS! Freshman Jacob Cantu had a great race claiming the Individual District Championship and becoming only the 2nd freshman to win the District Title in our recent history. The other to do it was Sebastian Benavides(Picture of both included) in 2007, eighteen years ago. The team used a strong finish to break away from the rest of the runners in the last mile as Adrian Reyna finished 2nd, Diego Reyna 4th, Sebastian Garcia 5th, Nathan Garza 6th, Bryan Montes-Rodriguez 8th and Jaden Castro 10th out of 50 runners.
The team now gets ready for our 2nd leg of our Championship Season as they will travel to Corpus Christi on 20Oct25 for the Regional Meet in hopes of placing in the top 4 to earn a spot at the State XC meet to be held on 31Oct25.
