Cross Country Friday Night Lights Meet Results

What a great opportunity the LYTLE PIRATE XC TEAM had on Friday as they got to run under the lights at the SA Friday Night Lights XC Meet hosted by Northside Sotomayor HS. They took advantage of the experience and made the most of it.

VARSITY GIRLS

I told the girls before we left to go and change the narrative...and that they did. We practiced all week learning how to run together and find strength from each other, and they did just that. That was the best TEAM effort I've seen from any Lytle girls' team in a while. That effort helped them finish 2nd, ahead of #7 4A Fredericksburg, #2 3A Poth and #8 4A Huffman Hargrave, all State qualifiers last year. Our girls were runners-up behind the Latta family, also known as South Texas Heat Homeschool, which has sophomore Elin Latta who as a freshman broke the Texas high school mile record this summer. All five or our girls finished in the top 30 (Frances Scotello 15th, Elyse Cortinas 21st, Klayre Cook 26th, Kaycee Galindo 27th and Svetlana Lopez 30th out of 131 runners) in a very fast field on a very fast course. I was so proud of the way they stuck together and something we will definitely build on as we continue on through the season. See the image of the write up about their finish in TXMILESPLIT:

JUNIOR VARSITY GIRLS

The JV girls also had a great day as they finished 6th out of 24 teams, losing only to 6A schools. Freshman Annalise Quintanilla again led the way with a top 10 finish as she came in 9th. Addison Wagner finished 23rd, Sophia Herrera 60th, Kimora Sanchez 64th, and Isabella Sewell 65th out of 266 runners.

VARSITY BOYS

The Varsity Boys again did not fill a full team but still had another great showing in a very fast field in the 5A/6A Division. Senior Diego Reyna (18th) again led the way and helped pace Freshman Jacob Cantu (20th) in his first 5k race after missing last week with an injury. Junior Sebastian Garcia finished 51st with Senior Bryan Montes finishing 55th (out of 136 runners) after also missing last week with an injury. The team hopes to have a full group this next week at Medina Valley.

JUNIOR VARSITY BOYS

The JV had two participants in the 1A-3A Division with both runners having a great night as Junior Jaden Castro finished 14th and Freshman Weston Cook 78th out of 123 runners.

The team next travels up the road to Medina Valley HS for their 4th meet and halfway point of the regular season.
