The Lytle Pirates kicked off their 2025 football season in a spirited and unique way — under bright lights in the early hours of Monday, August 4. This annual Midnight Madness practice brings families, community members, district staff and area news reporters to Walter Joyce Stadium to celebrate the first official day of Texas high school football. Head Football Coach Mike Trevino brought this idea to life three years ago when he returned to Lytle to breathe life back into the football program.
In the wee hours - 12:30-2am - Pirate Football Players in grades 9-12 took to the field, energized by fans who wouldn't let the late night dim their show support. “This tradition brings our community together,” says Coach Trevino, “Our athletes love seeing so many come out to share their excitement.”
