Parents, Guardians and Staff,
Please be aware of a dangerous viral trend currently circulating on social media, particularly TikTok, that has made its way into some schools across the country, including ours. This trend involves students inserting metal objects into the keys or ports of their school-issued Chromebooks in an attempt to start a fire.
This behavior poses a serious safety risk not only to the individual student but also to others on campus due to the potential for electrical fires. In addition to being extremely hazardous, it is also causing significant damage to Chromebooks.
At the beginning of the school year, all students and parents signed a technology agreement stating that students are financially responsible for their Chromebooks, which are valued at $300. Any damage resulting from intentional misuse will result in the full cost of replacement being charged to the student’s account.
Due to the severity of this issue, any student found participating in this trend will face immediate disciplinary consequences, including a mandatory placement in the Disciplinary Alternative Education Program (DAEP).
We are asking for your partnership in speaking with your child about the dangers and consequences of engaging in this behavior. Student safety and the protection of school property are top priorities, and we appreciate your support in keeping our campus safe.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact your campus front office.
