Your Lytle Pirates participated in the District 28-AAA Championship held at Jourdanton last Wednesday and Thursday, and they made an unforgettable impact. Both the Varsity and Junior Varsity teams swept their respective divisions, dominating the competition with exceptional talent, teamwork, and hard work.
Varsity Team Performance:
The Varsity team delivered an outstanding performance, showcasing their depth across both track and field events. Although we entered the meet as the frontrunners on paper, we knew that winning would not be easy due to several athletes being sidelined with injuries. It would take a few athletes stepping up when the team needed them most. From the opening races to the final field events, the Varsity athletes dug deep and found a way to pull off the win, earning the title of Team Champions.
As we approached the meet, I reminded the team to stay calm and collected throughout the event. Anything could happen—both good and bad—but it was crucial that we remained level-headed over the next two days if we wanted to achieve what we had set out to do at the beginning of the season. This was especially important after losing the district title last year by just six points to Hondo.
As we got underway, we knew we would be losing points in our horizontal jumps, sprints, and both the 4x1 and 4x2 relays. Despite this, we left Day 1 of the meet with 36 points, knowing that we were still a long way from the title. On Day 2, we snagged 156 points to clinch the win!
