Track Meet at Holy Cross Lytle Results

Thank you, Coach Gilbert Ruiz and Coach Scotello for providing results for our runners and throwers from the Holy Cross Track Meet.

Coach Gilbert Ruiz:

Just wanted to share this.  Not often that as a coach you get to coach with one of your former athletes.  I have the opportunity right now to coach with 3 of them.  Christine Jopling (Morales) who was part of the first girls district track championship I won as a girls coach (2009). Sebastian Benavides who was part of a lot of things but was part of the first team I took to state in XC (placed 3rd-2009). And Clayton Jopling who was part of the first State relay team we took in the 4x200m(2008). It is a blessing as I get closer to the end of my career that I get to see this young woman and young men inspiring others to reach their goals. It makes me proud to see the passion they have for the sport and the enjoyment they are getting doing it.

Your Lady Pirate Track & Field team traveled to Holy Cross for their first meet of the season.

It was a pretty cold day, but a great opportunity to see where we are as we start the season.

Frances Scotello had an outstanding day in not so great conditions! She set 2 PERSONAL RECORDS in weather conditions you usually don't. She bettered her 3200m time dropping from 12:32.76 she ran at the regional track meet last year to an outstanding 12:16.18 in her first meet back and also dropped her 1600m time by :01 down to 5:47.27. This is especially gratifying since she didn't get to finish the XC season due to injury. Giselle and Addison also had great days as they ran events they usually aren't used to, and they did them admirably. All the girls did great and I am proud of them and how they competed in the weather yesterday. The Varsity girls finished 2 out of 13 teams. Below are the ones that placed (1st-6th):

  • 100m - Giselle Esparza (3rd)

  • 200m - Addison Criado (2nd), Giselle Esparza (4th)

  • 400m - Klayre Cook (2nd), Addison Criado (4th)

  • 3200m - Frances Scotello (2nd)

  • 4x400m - Giselle Esparza, Svetlana Lopez, Addison Criado, Klayre Cook (2nd)

  • Shot - Martina Ytuarte (3rd)

Both freshman Kaycee and Elyse had great days for the JV as both captured 1st in their individual events, helping the JV girls finish 1st out of 9 teams. Below are the ones that placed (1st-6th):

  • 200m - Ljiljana Georgiev (2nd), Jerelyn Martinez (T-4th)
