Varsity Boys Basketball Dilley and Jourdanton Recap

Thank you, Head Basketball Coach Jacob Hernandez for sharing details about two great wins!

Pirate Nation,

Last week the Pirates went 2-0 to keep their district championship dream alive. The Pirates traveled to Jourdanton HS on Tuesday and won 79-73. The Pirates struggled shooting all game, but defeat was not in their vocabulary. Sophomore Ethan Elizondo came up with two late minute steals in the fourth quarter to secure the victory over the Indians. Offensively Junior Chase Guevara led the Pirates with 33 points, 5 rebounds , and 5 steals. Junior Darius Garcia added 16 points to his stats with 12 of those points coming from the 3-point line.

Friday the Pirates traveled to Dilley HS for an early showdown and won handily 100-44. It was a great team win and everyone on the team played for two quarters . All ten players scored and put themselves in the box score as well.

The Pirates face the Poteet aggies in a must win to secure a district championship. If the Pirates win, due to the new UIL Playoff format, we will be co district champs with Crystal City with the Pirates going Division two (small school) and CC going Division one (big school) in the playoffs next week. We split the district series 1-1 with each other.

At the Poteet game, the Pirates will be revealing the photo of the 2023 State Finals Team that will hang on the wall of fame. We will have senior night following the photo reveal and recognition. Boys Basketball has a lot of good things to celebrate tonight so hope to see you in the stands. Go Pirates!
