The Lytle Pirate Junior High Trio, consisting of the Cantu brothers and Cook, set sail to Round Rock Saturday morning to compete at the McNeil Hoka Invitational. As mentioned in an earlier email from Coach Ruiz, this site is the home of the UIL State Meet. Known as one of the largest junior high meets in Texas, this was Lytle's first participation in 18 years, and the Trio did not disappoint!
In a field of 396 runners, our Lytle Pirates truly represented. Frank Cantu, our lone 7th grader, finished 25th overall (combined 7th and 8th grades) and 4th among the 7th grade participants. Weston Cook finished 66th out of all competitors. Lastly, Jacob Cantu dominated the field, claiming an impressive 1st place victory. The race came down to the wire, requiring every ounce of effort from him.
We have high hopes of recreating these memorable experiences at this site in the years to come. The success of our young athletes inspires us all, and we can’t wait to see what the future holds for the Lytle Pirates!
While some may expect Lytle to have a "rebuilding" year, we are clearly on a path of "reloading" for future success!
If you see Frank, Weston, or Jacob around, be sure to give them a big congratulations! Their hard work and achievements at the McNeil Hoka Invitational deserve to be celebrated. Go, Pirates!
