Thank you, Coach Arnold Martinez for sharing the details of this come-from-behind win in Carrizo Springs.
Not only was yesterday our first away game, but it was also one of the furthest road trips of the season. I mentioned this because our team came out as flat as I’ve ever seen them, and we coached them last year. In the first half our players were lethargic, they were out -hustled and we were out-coached. Burl Jopling found the endzone late in the 1st quarter and we limped to halftime down only 14-8. In the second half the Pirates got their mojo back. The offense controlled the ball for all but 7 plays and kept the ball for all but 31 seconds in the 4th quarter. Besides Jopling, Devaun Reed, Joe Jimenez, Elliot Mata and Brayden Robinette carried the ball. Up front Chevy Frias, Andrew Frausto, James Thompson, Adrian Pantoja, Ryan Hendrickson and Haven Casias fought hard to grind out yardage. The Defense played a great 2nd half. Xzander Flores, Julio Salazar, Robinette, Jose Rangel, Christian Cortinas and Landon Spinks flew around and made it difficult for the Wildcats to get anything going. We left Carrizo Springs 3-0.
