I told our kids this past week if they wanted to get noticed, they needed to go catch a big fish. In order to catch a big fish, you need to go to the deep end and that meant taking our ship deep sea fishing. And so off we went to 6A Steele HS for the first time to try and get people to take notice, and by the end of the meet, we did get just that.
The Varsity girls started the day capturing 3rd place behind Brandeis and Taft who last week battled to a 1-2 finish at the Northeast Invite. Varsity boys backed it up with a 2nd place finish behind Clemens who won the boys division at the Northeast invite, and then JV boys finished the day off with a convincing 1st place team finish with 5 finishing in the top 12.
For the varsity girls we had 3 finishes in the top 20 with the team being led once again by Frances Scotello’s impressive 3rd place finish behind 2 of 6A’s Region 4's best. Also finishing in the top 20 and medaling were Svetlana Lopez (19th) and Elyse Cortinas (20th) out of 74 runners.
For the varsity boys they were also led once again by senior Johnny Rey Alvarez's 7th place finish. All five boys medaled (Bryan Montes 8th, Yandel Esquivez 13th, Diego Reyna 18th, Lucas Salazar 20th) and finished in the top 20 out of 95 runners.
We had 2 JV Girl runners with Andrea Gomez placing 19th and medaling and Payton Devaney finishing 32nd out of 74 runners
For the JV Boys, they had 5 finishes in the top 12 with Nathan Garza leading the way with his 3rd place finish. Adrian Reyna 4th, Michael Scotello 6th, Sebastian Garcia 7th, Jaden Castro 12th, Anthony Scotello 49th, and Emiliano Cardenas 57th out of 71 runners.
The team next travels to Medina Valley on August 31, 2024. COME OUT AND WATCH ON SATURDAY. This is the closet we will be all year. They are a great group to watch. Both Varsity boys and girls will again run 5A/6A division, and our JV Boys will run the 1A-4A Varsity Division.
