Thank you, Coach Bryan Bippert for
A wise man once told me "A win is a win...is a win...doesn't matter how it happens". Your 7th grade Pirates found a way last night in Poteet, Texas.
After 3 straight plays gaining zero yards, Lytle scored first on a punt. Dylan Larque blasted a 25-yard punt, Poteet inadvertently touched the ball and Tevin Elliott scooped it up and rumbled into the endzone for 6 points. The point after was no good.
Poteet then marched down the field and tied the game at 6 - 6. Point after was no good on a great tackle by Mason Elizondo. Poteet then recovered an onside kick. The Pirate defense stepped up and played great behind fine play from Eddiel Morales, Aiden Lugo and Tevin Elliott. Your Pirates stopped the Aggies on 4th down.
The Pirate offense sputtered.
Once again, the defense came through and stopped the Aggies at the Pirate 25-yard line with 1:09 left in the first half.
After 2 plays and zero yards, the Pirates called time-out with 29 seconds left. Jagger Valdez connected with Jase Garza for a 75-yard touchdown pass. Valdez ran in the 2-point conversion behind Mason Elizondo, Trae Duran, Colton Ward, Isaiah Esquivez, Avery Vela and Tevin Elliott.
Halftime score: LYTLE 14, Poteet 6
The 2nd half was full of great defensive plays from both teams. Eddiel Morales continued to rack up the tackles along with Mason Elizondo, Colton Ward, Aiden Lugo and Tevin Elliot.
The Pirate offense finally put together a drive in the middle of the 4th quarter. Jagger Valdez hooked up with Jase Garza for a 30-yard pass. After nice runs by Valdez and Avery Vela. Jagger Valdez scampered into the endzone behind Jaziah Brooks, Madden Hernandez and Isaiah Esquivez,
The 7th grade improved their record to 3 wins and 2 losses. Next Thursday, the Pirates will host Hondo in Lytle at 5:00 pm.
