Cross Country Meet at Medina Valley

Thank you, Coach Gilbert Ruiz, for this wonderful summary of the Cross Country Meet at Medina Valley on August 31, 2024.

On Saturday, August 31, 2024, the Lytle Pirate Cross Country team traveled down the road to Medina Valley and got one last chance to compete against 5A and 6A schools. Though we didn't come away with a championship trophy, we did take advantage of the opportunity and had a very successful day.

Varsity girls started the morning with a fourth place team finish and once again Frances Scotello led the way with an impressive second place finish. She has not backed down all year while juggling cross country and volleyball tournaments on Saturdays. Freshman Elsye Cortinas also had a great day as she also medaled finishing 15th in a very tough field. The girls continue to work hard and know there is still a long path ahead.

The varsity boys had a good day, but Boerne brought reinforcements after last week's meeting and proved to be too strong this time around as they finished second out of 23 teams.  But they did get to face and defeat the defending 3A and #1 team in the state, Great Hearts Northern Oaks who finished seventh. If we can take care of our injuries, we have a great chance to get on that medal stand again.

The JV boys got to run in the 1A-4A varsity division as a lone group one last time and they once again proved they will be someone to watch in the future as they finished an impressive third place.  We had three runners finish in the top 15 as Adrian Reyna (8th), Nathan Garza (12th) and Sebastian Garcia (14th) all medaled.

After 3 months of training and the first half of the season complete, your Lytle Pirate XC team now gets ready for the second half of the season and hopefully a CHAMPIONSHIP RUN.

The girls currently sit 3rd in the State, while the boys just beat the #1 team in 3A (Great Hearts Northern Oaks) on Saturday and currently sit 2nd.

Our continuing quest for PRECIOUS METALS (medals) will take us to Bandera this Saturday with the first race (Varsity Girls) starting at 7:30am and we hope to have a great showing.

The remainder of our schedule is as follows:

9/7 Bandera

9/14 Islander (Corpus-site of Regional Meet)

9/20 McNeil (Round Rock-site of State Meet)

9/28 Luling

CHAMPIONSHIP SEASON

10/9 District (Dilley)

10/22 Regionals (Corpus Christi)

11/2 STATE (Round Rock)

Below is the team's resume so far and we hope that this will get us ready to try and make a State medal run.
