Junior Varsity Girls Basketball District Update

On Friday, January 5, 2024, the District opener was played against Natalia, where the Lady Pirates fell 28-33. The girls played with a lot of energy and competed to the very end.  

Game Highlights: 

  • Genesis Martinez scored 10 points, 5 steals, 6 deflections and 4 rebounds. 

  • Sofia Stewart added 10 points, 4 deflections and 8 rebounds. 

  • Claire Canales scored 4 points, 3 blocks and 7 rebounds. 

  • Cayleigh Smith contributed 2 points, 2 blocks and 5 rebounds. 

  • K'Lynn Perez added 2 points, 4 deflections and 3 steals. 

  • Jaylynn Villereal scored 3 deflections, 4 steals and 3 rebounds.

The second District game against Cotulla, on January 9, 2024, ended in a loss of 27-32. This was a very intense game, having many lead changes, the girls played their hearts out.  Everyone on the team contributed points, which was awesome! 

Game Highlights: 

  • Sofia Stewart scored 12 points, 6 rebounds and 3 steals. 

  • Jovi Velasquez added 5 points, 4 rebounds and 5 deflections. 

  • Genesis Martinez had 4 points, 3 steals, 2 rebounds and 4 deflections. 

  • K'Lynn Perez scored 3 points, 4 steals and 3 deflections.  

  • Jaylynn Villereal added 2 points, 3 deflections and 2 steals. 

  • Cayleigh Smith contributed 1 point, 4 blocks and 5 rebounds. 

 

On Tuesday, January 16, 2024, the girls traveled to Hondo for their third District game, but it was not their night. The final score was 18-31.  The girls competed to the very end.   

Game Highlights: 

  • Genesis Martinez scored 13 points, 5 steals, 4 deflections and 3 rebounds. 

  • Cayleigh Smith had 5 points, 3 blocks, 5 rebounds and 2 steals. 

  • Sofia Stewart added 4 rebounds and 2 deflections. 

  • K'Lynn Perez had 3 deflections, 4 steals and 2 rebounds. 

  • Jovi Velasquez scored 3 rebounds and 2 deflections. 

  • Jaylynn Villereal contributed 3 rebounds, 4 deflections and 2 steals. 

  • Claire Canales added 4 rebounds and 2 blocks. 

The Junior Varsity girls will saddle back up and get ready for the next District game on Friday, January 19, 2024, vs Crystal City.
