What a great crowd on Friday night, January 5, 2024, as the girls opened up District play by beating Natalia 63-42. It was a great team win with every girl scoring. The girls came out slowly but kicked it in during the 2nd quarter when the girls brought some pressure from their press. The Lady Pirates shot 42% from the field, which is a great improvement from the last two games. The girls scored 23 points on the Mustangs turnovers and scored 34 points in the paint, which shows the offense is working to get easy shots like that. The team had 14 steals, so the defense is coming around where they want it to be. Arianna Garcia had a big night and Aliana Cardenas came off the bench, giving an offensive spark. The coaches have been preaching the need for everyone to be involved and on Friday they finally saw that come to light. With 1:30 left in the game, Coach Wilson was able to take the three Seniors out, and they cheered their teammates on to Victory. The girls are now 17-7 for the year and 1-0 in District.
The team celebrated Senior Captain Calyssa Sevier for reaching 1,000 career rebounds, and they still have plenty of games left. She continues to break records before she leaves High School. The team and coaches are so proud of her. She is a special kid that Lytle is lucky to have.
